Climate Art 101
I’m thinking about creating a Climate Art 101 course that would focus on learning about climate through art. There’s tons of research about how writing information by hand helps with recall and comprehension. My theory is that drawing is even more beneficial (and more fun!).
I’ve been learning about climate change topics and drawing them for almost 2 years now (um, how did that happen?? It’s been so fast!). I’ve learned an incredible amount of information and each painting I create becomes a visual flashcard. With each line I draw, the climate solutions become vivid in my mind. And especially as I color, they are brought to life.
I want to design a course that could be both fun and educational to unlock that same feeling for anyone. I’m imagining it would be great for a few types of people:
Folks transitioning into climate and hoping to level up their climate knowledge.
Climate experts who would like to get better at simplifying and communicating their subject-matter expertise.
People who want to get in touch with their creativity while also learning about climate solutions.
The course would have daily prompts on how to draw climate solutions. For example, one day you may draw a diagram of how a heat pump works. I will provide reference images, links to research papers, examples of heat pumps I’ve painted, and tips on how to draw your own version. Then there would be a space to share your drawing in a community setting.
I would want it to be simple to start, potentially creating it as a 14 day intro course through email. If this is something you’d like to see me make, please fill out this form. If you have any other thoughts, feel free to shoot me an email too!
The coloring book launch has been going great! I went to the beach this week to soak up some of this sunshine and obviously brought along my book.
People are sending photos of them in the real world and it is truly the best feeling. If you have one, please tag me in a photo + write a review here if you’re up for it! It means the world to me.
Ways to support me:
I’m open for commissions. I help climate organizations simplify their messaging into pretty art
I host climate art workshops! I customize these workshops to your group- these are a great team-building activity.
Ok my climate cuties, thanks for reading and making it possible for me to keep making climate art. I’m already plotting my next coloring book hehe 😏
This newsletter is made with lots of love. If you’d like to support more climate art, please consider becoming a free or paid subscriber 💖
