Sustainable Storytelling- Climate Cartoons
A weekly showcase of artists communicating about climate change
Climate has a communications problem. Art and storytelling are powerful climate solutions. This is designed to be an antidote for doom scrolling, brightening your inbox to provide climate education and hope to soothe climate anxiety.
Today we’ll be talking about climate cartoons! Cartoons are a powerful way to bring humor and lightness to complex topics. They are a beautiful medium that combines art, comedy, and thoughtful content.
Cartoonists
Climatoonist focuses on making cartoons from the front lines of the renewable energy transition. Their cartoons are particularly niche to my love of clean energy and I adore them. He does a series for Canary Media here.
Tom Toro is a New Yorker cartoonist who brings humor to the climate crisis. He does a series of climate cartoons for Yale Climate Connections.
Climate Art 101 Student Spotlight
In Climate Art 101 one of the prompts is to make a cartoon! Here are pieces by two students Vanessa Berry and Linda Knoll.
If you are curious about how to learn to make your own climate art, I’d love for you to be a part of the next cohort which starts September 16! Or forward this to a friend who might enjoy it. You can save 25% if you register before September 10.
My Art of the Week
I’m working on a series of “climate rom-comics.” I love the idea of creating meet-cutes around a climate theme. Bringing a lighthearted topic like love to a more intense topic like climate change makes it feel much more approachable. The medium of comics itself is also inherently playful which adds an extra levity.
Very excited to start your course and have community and accountability around my art!
