Social Media Blackout Friday
Being on social media less is better for the environment
Ok friends, I have an idea. Let’s ditch Black Friday. Let’s start Social Media Blackout Friday. No screens, no scrolling, no shopping.
My theory is that being on social media less is better for the environment.
The less we scroll, the less targeted ads we see. So we shop less. The less we shop, the less ends up in landfills.
This makes us appreciate what we have more. So we care for what we already have more deeply. And if we need something, we rely on our community more to share more rather than consume more.
When we’re not scrolling as much, we’re also not comparing ourselves to others. Instead of connecting to others over the internet, we’re connecting to ourselves and our loved ones. We get outside more, appreciating nature more. This makes us want to protect our planet more.
So this is my plan, let’s start Social Media Blackout Friday. Comment with what you are going to do instead of scrolling and spread the word!
If you need a little help getting off your phone, I just launched an app called Free Time to help you stop mindlessly scrolling and learn how to use your phone mindfully. You can download it here.
