On Friday I hosted a free climate art workshop about clean energy. 65 people from all around the world joined. This was the biggest workshop I’ve ever facilitated! There were folks from India, the Netherlands, Mexico, Germany, Canada, and all across the United States.
I loved seeing the beautiful art they created to imagine a future with abundant renewable energy. As a special treat for you all, I wanted to share a free recording of the workshop for you too! You can download it here. Here is the link to the presentation to follow along as well.
These workshops bring me back to my teaching days. Before becoming an artist, I co-founded an after school program to teach kids how to code. We taught our classes using the socratic method. Instead of lecturing our students, we asked questions to help them to discover solutions independently.
This philosophy is something I’ve carried with me as I lead these art workshops today. I don’t give lessons on how to paint, I offer questions to inspire people to dream up their own creative ideas. Here were a few questions I asked to get folks dreaming about what they think a clean energy future could look like.
I also like to provide reference imagery to spark ideas too. Recently, I’ve been using Midjourney to spin up some fun inspiration images.
I love creating an interactive space for virtual teams to feel connected without staring at their screens. I believe art is great tool for collaboration that helps people dream big about their work while unlocking a new creative perspective. If you have an organization that would like a climate art workshop, feel free to shoot me a note!
I’m definitely going to be doing more of these free workshops in the next few months. If you have a topic that you’d like to see me bring to life, let me know!
These workshops are a prelude to my Climate Art 101 course. I’m excited to share tools to help people make their own climate art while bringing together a community of climate creatives. If you want to get on the waitlist for when it goes live, just fill out this form!
Art of The Week
I turned another page from my coloring book into a watercolor painting! There are prints available in my shop here too.
Ways to support me:
Buy yourself somet from my shop- a mug, my coloring book, a onesie, a print.
I’m open for commissions. I help climate organizations simplify their complicated messaging into visuals anyone can understand.
I will keep my eyes open for another one of your workshops!
