I had the best 30th birthday party 🎉

Today is my 30th birthday! I love birthdays so much. I think of it as a time where I get to bring together my mini friend groups into one big one! 

So obviously I cared a lot about my 30th birthday. I wanted to do something that felt SO me and that my friends would enjoy. I sat down and thought about what I liked and don’t like:

Hilary Fitzgerald Campbell

, a cartoonist from the New Yorker, to do a private art workshop for 25 of my friends. I called it Cartoons and Cupcakes. I’m proud to say I was her first ~adult~ birthday party 😅.

What I love about cartooning is that it’s a blend of comedy and art. I took one workshop with Hilary, LOVED it, and immediately asked her to do my birthday party.

She had us create a “To-day list” where we wrote down what we did in the past 24 hours and then thought of a funny scene to turn into a comic. Hilary is also a stand-up comedian and has such a gift for helping people find humor in their own lives. 

There was so much laughter in that room it made my heart sing. Even my friends who don’t identify as artistic created such wonderful paintings. It was my absolute dream birthday!

I feel like my 20s have been such a special time. I have lived so many different lives in one decade. I’ve worked in fashion, at a digital nomad group (before that was normal), traveled to over 25 countries, worked at a co-living space, co-founded an after-school program for kids to code, transitioned into climate-tech, and now become an artist. 

I am really proud of myself for wandering the past 10 years to find who I am today. To be able to know what I like and don’t like and create an experience so authentic to my identity. I have a good grasp of who I am and I am proud to be her. I know I like to go to sleep early and my 30th birthday party ended at 10. How cool is that?

I have a good feeling about the next decade. I’m not scared of my 30s, I’m excited for this new era to begin!
