Hi friends!Â
I truly didn’t know if I’d have a chance to send you a little note this week. Turns out Earth Day is like my holiday season. This week has been mayhem with making art for clients for Earth Day! I spent all day painting yesterday and when I say I’m excited to show you what I made, it’s a huge understatement. It’s pretty darn special!Â
The result: my entire apartment is covered in about 20 pages of paintings and the dishes really need to be cleaned. At one point yesterday I took a call while painting. Multitasking at its finest 😅
Stay tuned on Monday!Â
Now back to you- I wanted to send over some creative ideas on how to celebrate Earth Day. Here are a few art-forward activities to celebrate.
Trashy art- spend some time cleaning up trash in your local area (a park, the street, the beach) and turn it into art. This is something I did a few years ago when I made a mini-series called Trashy Fairy Houses.
Nature mandala- Collect natural elements and turn them into a mandala. Would love to see photos of these if you make them!
Eco-meditation- Lean on a tree or lay in the grass while meditating. You can also listen to a guided meditation like Visioning a Regenerative Earth by my amazing friend Maia Kiley.
Gratitude list- write out a list of things you are grateful for that the earth has provided you or inspired you this year. Places you’ve visited, moments of awe, solitude you’ve found.
Cook a locally sourced meal- go to the farmers market this weekend and make a special meal for yourself or a friend. I have an appointment for the Park Slope food co-op this weekend to FINALLY become a member, so I will absolutely be doing this!Â
Mend something- do you have a piece of clothing that’s missing a button or has a little hole? Watch a Youtube video on how to mend it and give it a second life. I taught a mending workshop with my friend Erica 4 years ago and it was so fun!   Â
If you do any of these activities, send me a photo! I’d love to see.
