Hi friends! Today I’m doing a little check-in and progress update for you.
Art of the Week
Last week I got really into making a mini-series of climate colors. These were infinitely satisfying. It was such a simple way to make sure I was painting everyday.
I came up with a design for the cutest onesie I’ve made. It makes me smile when I look at it every time. I also made a mug for the grownups too 😅
Free Climate Art Workshop
My last free climate art workshop was a hit so I'm doing another on April 5th! RSVP here.
The theme will be about electrifying your home. We're going to talk about the benefits of the IRA and make art to create a vision of your dream electrified home 🏡
P.S. I do these workshops for teams and am doing a bunch for Earth Day. Feel free to shoot me a note if you'd like to bring me in for your organization!
Progress Updates
Climate Art 101 Course
I’m almost done writing the curriculum for my Climate Art 101 Course. Next up I need to do some light filming for it. I’m very excited with how it’s all coming together and can’t wait to share it when it’s live. If you want to get on the waitlist, just sign up here.
Food Systems Coloring Book
Longer post to come, but I’ve put the coloring book about food systems on the back burner for a bit. I did a deep dive into food for December/January and quickly realized I have a ton more to learn. I would want this book to be just as thoughtful and technical as my coloring book about clean energy and don’t want to rush that process.
The biggest win from this research process is that I suddenly love cooking! I cook ~3x/week (compared to 0 or 1x/week) and am having a blast learning new recipes. Send your favorite vegetarian recipes my way.
Art Goals
I’m working on getting better at drawing people and making characters. I’ve avoided painting people for the past 2 years because I’m honestly not great at it. I’ve started taking Skillshare classes to practice and gain confidence. I want to make a children’s book at some point and having a defined character style will be important for that!
Creative Recommendations
Now, it’s time for creative recommendations for my lovely paying subscribers.
An Uprising of Imagination: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors- an IRL event in NYC presented by Grist and the NRDC next Tuesday. I’ll be going, shoot me a message if you want to join!
ITP Camp- a month-long IRL camp for adults to explore creativity and tech. Organized by NYU, ITP Camp is an amazing combo of artists, musicians, programmers, fabricators, and creatives. I’ve had a bunch of friends do ITP and love it!
The Last Laugh- a recorded version of a panel from the NRDC with Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary) in conversation with Mike Schur (The Good Place + Parks and Recreation). This convo explores how to tackle tough topics through comedy.
